U10 Academy Setup

U10 Academy Players and Parents,

BUSA started a U10 initiative this spring for above average skilled players who would benefit from
(and are interested in) playing with and against other higher skilled players. These teams would be
more intense than our recreational league but not competitive like our travel teams that many of
our older kids play in. This will be an introduction to the next level of soccer. Our goal is to form 1 boys
team and 1 girls team with 10/11 players each. There is not a tryout or a formal selection process so we
need to be careful not to discourage initiative but we have to be a bit selective; the broader the skill
breadth amongst the players the less improvement we can achieve. Behavior and maturity are also
important; players that can’t pay attention and are often goofing around can be detrimental to this
effort.

The plan is for each team to play a scrimmage on the afternoon of March 23th at our fields; they will be playing teams from Sulphur. Starting the
following week, we will have 2 training sessions a week at the BUSA complex on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings 5:30-7:00. These training sessions are the most important part of the academy
initiative. We will focus primarily on individual player skills but will also teach passing, off the ball
movement, and positional concepts. The priority is individual player development- not winning games. We will have matches in Lake Charles on April 13, matches in Pt Arthur Tx on May 4th and they will do an overnight tournament in Lafayette, LA on April 27/28

The cost for U10 academy will be $100/player and will be available to sign up online at our BUSA website.
